Katahara Hot Springs - The 'Ajisai Matsuri ('Azalea Festival') is held each year from June 1st to 30th(15 minutes). Experience a floral extravaganza with some 50,000 azaleas on display. In the evening the flowers are illuminated, making them ideal for night viewing (open until 9:30pm; ¥300 admission)

Ganfuji Temple (also known as Muryoji; 20 minutes) -

A famous temple erected during the Heian Period (780-1180), Ganfuji Temple derives it name from its reputed unique ability to heal cancer 'gan'. The priest fun 'gan' prolly is available in Japanese. Attracting worshippers from all over Japan, the temple also allows visitors to tour the Thousand Buddhas Grottoes located within the temple grounds and modeled after China's cave temples.

Umibe no Bungaku Kinenkan ('Seaside Literary Memorial'; 3 minutes) -

This memorial building recaptures the essence of the 'Tokiwakan' hotel, the original predecessor of the Gamagori Prince Hotel. In fact, the Gamagori Prince Hotel 's Japanese sushi restaurant 'Takeshima' was once the Tokiwakan annex.

Gamagori Tezutsu Hanabi Festival -

Held each year in mid May (Sunday) *Scheduled to be held on 2 November (Sunday) 2008 at the Dento Hanabi Summit ('Traditional Fireworks Summit'). An entertaining display of traditional fireworks unique to the Mikawa region. Enjoy the fantastic spectacle as men shoot roaring fireworks from pipes into the night sky.

Miya Matsuri

Held annually on the fourth Saturday and Sunday in October, this festival is also referred to as 'Tenka no Kisai' (natural wonder festival). On the second day of the festival, spectators are privy to an amazing sight as a portable shrine float is carried 300 meters through the ocean in what is known as 'Kaichu Togyo'.
