Kobunkan Hall

The Meiji-era poetic genius, Takuboku Ishikawa, was employed here as a journalist in 1908. The newspaper office he worked in at the time has been rebuilt, and displays period materials.

Kushiro Wetlands

The Kushiro Wetlands are, at 27,000 hectares, the largest in Japan. They are home to the Japanese red-crowned crane, a Special Natural Monument, and reptiles such as the Northern Giant Salamander, a relic from the ice age.
