Mihoro Pass
Mihoro Pass, which overlooks the second largest caldera lake in the world, Lake Kussharo, allows you to enjoy the view of the lake in all seasons.

Omiwatari
The Omiwatari (passing of the gods) phenomenon covering some 10km, much more than the first known example in Nagano's Lake Suwo, is created along with a great crunching sound on the lake surface in the harsh cold of February and March.The height of these can sometimes reach up to 2 meters.

The attraction of Lake Mashu is its haunting mists. Thanks to the mists, which are almost alive, the landscapes change regardless of the season, reflecting different forms of the lake. On days when the mist clears, Lake Mashu, one of the clearest lakes in the world, its beauty reaches a whole new level.

Mt Iou (Suphur Mountain), where plumes of smoke constantly rise from the red-brown slopes. In contrast to this sight, from mid June to early July, the white flowers of Ezo wild rosemary form a carpet spreading out before you.

Lake Akan
Lake Akan is popular for the "marimo," a Special Natural Monument, as well as the sightseeing boats that cruise between the four large and small islands that dot the lake. In the winter you can enjoy fishing for lake smelt and snowmobiling.

Drift Ice in the Sea of Okhotsk
In normal years, from late January to late March the Sea of Okhotsk is encased in pure white. If you take a cruise on the icebreaker sightseeing shit Orofu, which moves ahead crushing the ice before it, you will be able to feel the rhythms of the earth.

Hosooka Observatory (Kushiro Shitsugen National Park)
These vast wetlands, covering 27,000 hectares, are a paradise for many animals, and in particular the Japanese red-crowned crane, a Special Natural Monument. It has truly spectacular scenery where you can see the Norokko train and the snaking river.

Koshimizu Natural Flower Garden
A flower garden extending for 8km along the sand dunes, surrounded by the Sea of Okhotsk and Lake Tofutsu. About 40 species of flower can be enjoyed from early June to late September.

Lake Notoro
This glasswort, the formal name of which is Salicornia europaea, dyes the ground like a brilliant red carpet from late August to early October. In particular, the expanse at Ubaranai, the largest in Japan, is an important habitat for glasswort within Japan.

Shiretoko National Park
Shiretoko, registered as a World Natural Heritage Site in July 2005, has many famous places where you can experience the grandeur of its untouched natural beauty, from the Five Shiretoko Lakes to Cape Shiretoko and the Kamuiwakka hot-water waterfall. There is also a lot of wildlife living here, and you can come face to face with a Yezo shika deer or a northern fox.

Oshinkoshin Falls
A thrilling sight, with its water spray cascading off a sheer 80 meter cliff! You can also get a view over the Sea of Okhotsk and the Shiretoko Range from the lookout at the top of the waterfall.
