Sapporo Area Information

Odori Park

Sapporo's green belt, Odori Park runs for 1,500m east-west through central Sapporo. At the east end, the television tower offers 360-degree panoramas. Around Odori Park, the clock tower, which has kept accurate time for over a hundred years since the Meiji Era, and the Former Hokkaido Government Office Building built in an American neo-Baroque style and fondly known as the red brick (aka-renga) are reminders of Hokkaido's colonial history.

Take the Sapporo Municipal Subway Tozai line bound for Shin Sapporo from Nishi 11-chome Station to Odori Station, at Odori Station change to the Namboku line bound for Asabu, get off at Sapporo Station, then walk 2 minutes.
Mt. Moiwa Lookout

Mt Moiwa is one of the best-known places for a night view of Sapporo. Enjoy the ropeway ride to the lookout.

1 minute walk from the hotel to the Chuo-kuyakusho-mae Tram Station. Take the tram bound for Susukino, get off at the ropeway entrance, then walk 10 minutes to the ropeway base station.
Clock Tower

The clock tower was built as the drill hall (enbujo) of the former Sapporo Agricultural College (now Hokkaido University), and its bell has rung out the hours accurately since 1878.

Hokkaido University

This northern seat of learning, in its spacious tree-filled campus, is to the north of Sapporo Station. The Furukawa Hall and the Old Dairy Model Farm of Sapporo Agricultural College are just some of the historical buildings dotting the campus.

Take the Sapporo Municipal Subway Tozai line bound for Shin Sapporo from Nishi 11-chome Station, then change at Odori Station for the Namboku line bound for Asabu. Get off at Sapporo Station and walk 10 minutes. Or get off at Kita 12-jo Station, and walk 5 minutes.
Sapporo Snow Festival

In February, the Sapporo Snow Festival is held amidst the sparkling snow. Snow sculptures from the huge to the tiny can be seen throughout the festival area. Forget the cold in the human warmth that envelops this joyful event.

Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art

From the Sapporo Prince Hotel, the Museum is just across Odori Park. It displays mainly works by artists connected with Hokkaido.

Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill

On the south-east outskirts of Sapporo, Hitsujigaoka (Sheep Hill) is a peaceful place where sheep graze. From the lookout point where the statue of Dr. Clark stands, you can see over the city of Sapporo and the vast Ishikari Plain.

Using local buses                                           From in front of Sapporo Station, take the Hokkaido Chuo bus for Hitsujigaoka Tembodai and get off at Hitsujigaoka Tembodai. Entrance fee: 500 yen
Otaru Canals

The Otaru Canals tell the story of when Otaru prospered as a commercial town. The canals are lined with stone warehouses, and with its gas streetlights, it makes for a romantic strolling path.

By train Take the train to JR Otaru Station from JR Sapporo Station, then walk about 15 minutes to the Otaru Canals.
Susukino

The area between Minami (South) 4 to 9-jo and Nishi (West) 2 to 8-jo is called Susukino, and its neon-flashing bright-lights district is the biggest north of Tokyo. Thousands of restaurants and bars are crowded together and packed with people until dawn.

It is a 15 minute walk from the hotel to Susukino. Or you can take the Sapporo Municipal Subway Tozai line bound for Shin Sapporo from Nishi 11-chome Station, then change at Odori Station for the Namboku line bound for Makomonai. Get off at Susukino Station, then walk 2 minutes.
