Yashu Asa Hemp
The Hemp used in this Hemp accessory making workshop is high quality Yashu Asa Hemp fiber from Kanuma, Tochigi Prefecture, which is used to make sacred rope ornaments (shimenawa) for shrines and The sacred rope belts worn by yokozuna in sumo wrestling.
Furthermore, The Hemp used in The workshop is blessed at Tomisaki-jinja Shrine in Katsuura, Chiba Prefecture. Tomisaki-jinja Shrine is dedicated to Amenotomi no Mikoto, a kami(god) who created mirrors, jewels, and Hemp for The Inbe Clan, which was associated with making implements for Imperial Court rituals and building shrines, so this Shrine has a very intimate connection with hemp.
