Introduction of Accommodation Tax in Karuizawa Town (Effective June 2026)

Starting from June 2026, Karuizawa Town will introduce an accommodation tax.

*This tax will be applied per person per night, based on the accommodation fee.
All guests who stay overnight and pay an accommodation fee will be subject to the tax, regardless of age.

【From June 1, 2026 to May 31, 2029】

¥6,000 – less than ¥10,000
Accommodation Tax: ¥200 (Breakdown: Town ¥100 / Prefecture ¥100 [planned])

¥10,000 – less than ¥100,000
Accommodation Tax: ¥250 (Breakdown: Town ¥150 / Prefecture ¥100 [planned])

¥100,000 or more
Accommodation Tax: ¥700 (Breakdown: Town ¥600 / Prefecture ¥100 [planned])

※No accommodation tax will be charged if the lodging fee (room only) is less than ¥6,000 per person per night.

【From June 1, 2029 onward】

¥6,000 – less than ¥10,000
Accommodation Tax: ¥300 (Breakdown: Town ¥150 / Prefecture ¥150 [planned])

¥10,000 – less than ¥100,000
Accommodation Tax: ¥350 (Breakdown: Town ¥200 / Prefecture ¥150 [planned])

¥100,000 or more
Accommodation Tax: ¥800 (Breakdown: Town ¥650 / Prefecture ¥150 [planned])

※No accommodation tax will be charged if the lodging fee (room only) is less than ¥6,000 per person per night.
