Robot Restaurant

Located in Kabukicho, a slightly notorious part of Tokyo, the Robot Restaurant is a bit of a trek from the Sunshine City Hotel, but the novel and exciting attraction is well worth the journey.

The Robot Restaurant is a one of a kind restaurant and bar, packed to the brim with robots and robot-themed attractions. Once you step in through its doors, you’ll be greeted with the sight of thousands of colourful, flashing lights, loud music, giant robot statues and much more.

Once you’ve made it past the impressive entrance, the real fun begins. After you’re seated down with a delicious drink, you’ll be greeted with a special live performance that combines a variety of human and robotic talents. Live singers and dancers perform a medley of popular songs from Japan and around the world, while performers in robot costumes, as well as actual robots perform some dazzling routines. Packed with heaps of colour, music and light, it’s an unforgettable and sometimes overwhelming experience, but you’re unlikely to see anything else like it, anywhere in the world.

Shinjuju Golden Gai

If you’re heading out from the Sunshine City Hoteland want to enjoy a fantastic night out of great food and drink, surrounded by inviting lights and fascinating bars, the narrow but packed alleys of Shinjuku’s Golden Gai is a great place to visit.

The Golden Gai is composed of six alleys, connected by even narrower passages, within which you’ll find a maze of over 200 bars, eateries and stalls. Lit by neon signs, it’s a beautiful place to walk around after dark, although you’ll have to be mindful of the no-photography rules here. As the alleys are private roads and not public areas, photography can only be carried out with the express permission of the businesses in the area.

Once you wander in a little deeper through the alleys, you’ll find some exceptional bars that showcase fantastic music as well as great drinks. Many of the bars in the Golden Gai are popular with local artists, writers, musicians and other celebrities, and you’ll often find bars dedicated to a particular theme or genre of music, such as jazz, flamenco or punk rock.

As an area that is busy with locals from the city, it’s important to be respectful of the local street rules in order to have a good time. Most bars in the Golden Gai will not open before 8 pm, so make sure not to head out too early. It’s worth spending time in one or two bars only and savouring the experience, rather than trying to bar hop too frequently. While some bars may have signs excluding tourists, most are friendly and welcoming places and great to explore.
