Hakone Check Point and Museum

The Tokugawa Shogunate established the Hakone Check Point in 1619 to prevent an insurrection of feudal lords, and the facility continued to impose strict rules posing a burden on travelers for more than 250 years. The current guardhouse was restored in 1965.
