Arimatsu-Narumi Historic Townscape

The town of Arimatsu, which retains the atmosphere of the Edo period, has been designated as an “Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings.”
As a tea house village between Chiryū-no-shuku and Narumi-shuku along the old Tōkaidō Road connecting Edo and Kyoto, it flourished as a center for shibori dyeing. Shibori dyeing continues to be passed down as a traditional craft, and the streets lined with prosperous merchant houses still convey the prosperity of the past.
