Toyokuni Shrine was founded in 1885 by local supporters, following a proclamation issued by Prefectural Governor Kunisada Renpei, who lamented the dilapidation of Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s birthplace. Revered by local people who admire Toyotomi Hideyoshi—who rose from a farmer to ruler of the nation—the shrine also attracts worshippers from all over Japan who come to receive his divine blessings.
