Hokanji (Yasaka Pagoda)

One of the most photographed landmarks in Kyoto, the five-story Yasaka Pagoda rises above the narrow lanes of Higashiyama with quiet majesty. Part of Hokanji Temple, this architectural treasure was originally built by Prince Shōtoku in the year 592 and has been rebuilt several times since. Designated as an Important Cultural Property, the pagoda remains a powerful symbol of Kyoto’s spiritual and artistic legacy.

Whether viewed in the soft glow of morning or silhouetted against the twilight sky, the Yasaka Pagoda offers a timeless reminder of Kyoto’s enduring elegance.
