The Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Kiyomizu’s building was converted from a historic schoolhouse. It has been renovated and re-opened as part of a plan to utilize the grounds of the former Kiyomizu Elementary School.
Located eight minutes on foot from Kiyomizudera Temple, floors one through four of the hotel retain the image of the old school building. It features spacious gardens and rooftops, 48 guest rooms converted from renovated classrooms and newly build rooms, a restaurant (capacity: 44), a guest lounge (capacity: 30), a fitness gym, and three private baths.
Hotel lobby at the 1st floor has a calming and welcoming atmosphere where guests can sit and relax at reception. Hotel restaurant, the library, where you can start the day off right with a breakfast that highlights local ingredients, served in a strikingly realistic library environment in a renovated former lecture hall. All overnight guests are also free to use our guest lounge, where you can enjoy views of Yasaka Pagoda right before your eyes.
The hotel’s namesake is the Seiryu (azure dragon), an auspicious mythological creature believed to protect the Higashiyama area.
The Seiryu is also one of the four divine guardians in feng shui, which are said to be able to change fortunes for the better and bring good luck, and to attract economic fortune, riches, and success. In naming the hotel, we combined this concept with the local area name of Kyoto Kiyomizu to represent our location in one of the most renowned tourist spots in the world.
What makes us unique are our spacious guest rooms, with an average area of 50 m2.
We have preserved part of the design of the original school building, retaining the historical value of the schoolhouse.
The interior structure preserves the beams and the classical windows with their original frames, achieving elegance and grace befitting your travels in Kyoto.
