Bath House Etiquette

A trip to Japan isn’t complete without a proper Japanese bath!
Get to know the bathing etiquettes when using a bathhouse or onsen during your trip to Japan.

What is Bath House?
In Japan there are typically two different types of baths:
・”Onsen”, which is the natural hot springs
・”Daijokujo” or “Sento”, which is a bath house

Ushio no Yu is our bathhouse, while not a traditional “onsen” or “sento”, is inspired by these iconic Japanese public bathing facilities. It’s a place for relaxation, cleanliness, and social interaction, designed to provide a similar experience within the comfort of our hotel.

What is the correct way to enjoy the bathhouse?
There are few things to keep in mind when using the bath house:

In keeping with tradition, bathing is enjoyed without swimsuits. Bathers are expected to thoroughly wash their bodies before entering the bath. This ritual promotes cleanliness and respect for shared spaces. Please bring bath towels and face towels from your room, using the black bag provided.
