Take a ride on the Myoko Suginohara Gondola to the foothills of Mount Myoko, listed as one of Japan’s 100 famous mountains. Glide through the sky as the slopes turn a blazing shade of crimson in autumn. Since the gondola travels at a relatively low altitude, the vivid foliage feels almost within reach, creating a powerful and immersive experience. Don’t miss the stunning view of deep-blue Lake Nojiri spread out below.
One of the best things about a gondola ride is being able to enjoy the vibrant autumn foliage up close in the comfort of your seat. The area around pillar 12 to 17 offers especially stunning colors, and the view of Lake Nojiri from around pillar 24 is truly spectacular. After your ride, don’t miss the chance to explore the wetland walking trail in the southern foothills of Mount Akakura that begins near the summit station. It’s the perfect way to cap off an unforgettable autumn experience.
During the autumn gondola season, restaurants within the ski resort are closed, but nearby shops and restaurants offer a wide variety of delicious dishes made with local ingredients.
Located at the foot of Mount Myoko, this highland plateau area is home to numerous scenic spots shaped by nature’s beauty. Be sure to stop by the nearby Akakura Onsen, a famous hot spring.
