Registered tangible cultural property

The main building of the Sanyo-so was built in 1929 as the holiday house for Hisaya Iwasaki, the eldest son of Yataro Iwasaki, the founder of Mitsubishi.
Designed by Kyoto’s famous garden architect, Ogawa Jihee, it is built in the elegant Sukiya-zukuri architecture style, surrounded by an enormous Japanese garden.

In June 2017, it was declared a Tangible Cultural Property by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs.
