Sapporo Clock Tower

A Symbol of the City, Steeped in History

Standing proudly in the heart of the city since 1878, the Sapporo Clock Tower is one of the oldest remaining Western-style buildings in Hokkaido and a cherished symbol of Sapporo. Originally built as the drill hall of the former Sapporo Agricultural College—now Hokkaido University—the tower’s bell has marked the passage of time for generations.

Inside, visitors can explore historical exhibits that trace the development of Sapporo and the tower’s architectural significance. The charming structure offers a glimpse into the city’s pioneering past, making it a meaningful stop for those interested in culture and heritage.

Access:
Take the Sapporo Municipal Subway Tozai Line from Nishi 11-chome Station (bound for Shin Sapporo), get off at Odori Station, then walk approximately 5 minutes.
