Kanou Shoujuan Sunai-no-sato

In Sunainosato, the Otsu-born Japanese sweet shop Kanou Shoujuan makes sweets based on agriculture in the rich natural environment of the Seta river bank. The 208,000㎡ grounds house not only a Japanese confectionery workshop, but also a restaurant and tea room where guests can enjoy tea and kaiseki meals made with seasonal ingredients year-round. The popular “Miyama Tsuzura Lunch Plan,” available every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, includes lunch and a confectionery-making experience. You can also enjoy fresh coffee and bread made with Japanese confectionery ingredients or ingredients from Shiga Prefecture at the Bakery Cafe. The some 1000 Japanese apricot “ume” trees that provide fruit for the sweets bloom with white flowers in March, and apricot-picking events are held when the fruit ripens in early summer. We also recommend walking around the woods to see flowers in every season. This is a place to spend a relaxing time in an atmosphere reminiscent of early Japan.
